Toyo Engineering Corporation (Tokyo, Japan, TEC, President Toshihiko Hirose), in cooperation with Brazilian engineering company Setal Engenharia Construcoes S.A. (Setal), has been awarded a contract by Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (PETROBRAS, head office Rio de Janeiro) for the planned Delayed Coker Plant (1,700 T/D capacity), and its utility and off-site facilities, for the REDUC Refinery in Duque de Caxias, suburb of Rio de Janeiro. TEC had participated in the international bidding for the project, and talks had proceeded until just recently, when an agreement was reached and the contract formally signed. The purpose of this project is to increase production of light fractions obtained by thermal cracking of vacuum residue from the existing refinery, along with the production of petro-coke. The scope of the TEC and Setal consortium includes detailed design, supply of most of the equipment and materials, supervision of construction, and assistance to commissioning. The contract is worth about 6 billion yen (US$ 50 million) and the plant is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2005.
Since the award of their first order for PETROBRAS' largest FCC plant in 1996, TEC has been awarded large-scale projects for the energy sector in PETROBRAS continuously. The orders include two gas processing plants, a compressor station and pipeline, a residual fluid catalytic cracking unit (RFCC), a gas oil hydrodesulfurization (HDS) unit. This is the second delayed coker plant order from PETROBRAS.
TEC is currently engaged in Cabiunas Gas and Transfer Project in Rio de Janeiro State and Refinery Modernization Project for Alberto Pasqualini Refinery (REFAP) in Rio Grande do Sul State for PETROBRAS. Along with TEC's competitive pricing, expertise and accomplishments in crude oil upgrading technology, the deciding factor in this present order being awarded to TEC was surely the customer's trust TEC has built up through its smooth execution of both previous and on-going projects. Taking the opportunity this new order presents, TEC will continue to strengthen its position in Brazil and other Latin American market.
