Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO,President and CEO Yutaka Yamada) has concluded an alliance contract called "TOYO CDI SOLAR ALLIANCE" with CDI Engineering Solutions, the engineering unit of CDI Corporation in the U.S. to develop a polysilicon business in China. CDI Corporation has a significant amount of experience in engineering design of polysilicon plant and specializes in integrating silicon manufacturing processes where different processes are controlled by different licensers.
At present, 70% of China's domestic demand for polysilicon, a raw material used in solar panels and semiconductors, is satisfied by imports. To reduce this dependence on imports, China is expected to construct a large number of domestic polysilicon plants in future. In line with the expanding size and complexity of polysilicon plants, customers' demand for integrated management of projects is increasing at a faster rate than ever. TOYO has produced creditable achievements in a wide range of fields in China through more than 190 projects. The alliance of the two companies will enable construction of high-quality polysilicon manufacturing facilities within a shorter period than before. By utilizing the market and technological advantages of both CDI and TOYO, the alliance will strive to win orders for polysilicon projects in the Chinese market, where solar energy generation is expected to grow rapidly.
