TOYO's flare gas recovery project for Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER), has received the International Technology Exchange Award from the Japan Petroleum Institute.
This project, which is aimed at reduction of SOx and CO2 through a flare gas recovery system, has been carried out jointly with Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. and Cosmo Engineering Co., Ltd. with the support of Japan Cooperation Center, Petroleum (JCCP). The system and technology introduced in the project received the award thanks to the high evaluation received due to their potential capacity to be widely disseminated when shaped and improved in ways that can be geared to the requirements of each country.
The system collects gas from the flare stacks of hydrocrackers in the Ruwais Refinery of TAKREER and utilizes it as combustion gas after eliminating hydrogen sulfide from it. This system reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately 7,000 tons per year. With less equipment required, which makes system operation, management and maintenance easier, thereby ensuring long-lasting system reliability.
