An international consortium consisting of Toyo Engineering Corporation (Toyo), Chiyoda Corporation (Chiyoda), and Petrochemical Industries Design and Engineering Company (PIDEC), an Iranian engineering firm, with the cooperation of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., has been awarded a contract by Petrochemical Industries Development Management Company (PIDMCO), affiliated with Iran's National Petrochemical Corporation (NPC), to construct a 2,050 t/d ammonia plant and a 3,250 t/d urea plant in the Bandar Assaluyeh region. The value of the contract is approximately Japanese Yen 25 billion and completion is scheduled for 2006.
This plant is the second fertilizer plant by NPC in this region and the consortium provides engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, and technical assistance services. Within consortium, Toyo covers an ammonia plant with M.W.Kellogg (UK) technology and Chiyoda covers a urea plant with Stamicarbon (Netherlands) technology as well as urea granulation with Hydro Fertilizer (Belgium) technology while PIDEC covers detailed design and local procurement for both plants.
This fertilizer complex, one of the largest in the world, will use natural gas from the South Pars Gas Field as a feedstock and are identical to the first ones, which are currently being executed by the Toyo/Chiyoda/PIDEC consortium led by Toyo, adjoining the first plants. The consortium has won the repeat order without competition through successful execution of the first project and the application of an export credit by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI).
